昨天晚上看了 Making North America 节目的第二部分: Life, 这才懂得原始时代美国中部却是一片汪洋大海。后来 the Pacific Plate pushed under the North American Plate, 使地壳隆起,形成山脉 (The Rocky Mountains). 如此解释,The Grand Canyon 雄伟奇特地势的形成对我来说就比较容易理解了。

10月27日,我与我的大学同学一行几十人乘船登上了金门岛。当年上大学时,报纸和新闻广播中常说,“春节期间对金门停止炮击3天,以示关怀”。所以,我们是怀着一种非常特殊的心情登上金门岛的。

Thanks for sharing the wonderful pictures you took of the National Mall area. By the looks of it, the recent powerful Nor'easter that swept through the Mid-Atlantic region didn't damage the spectacular views in anyway. It's great that you and your wife were able to enjoy your D.C. vacation.

果然,正如预报那样,上周末 "the cherry blossoms reached peak bloom"。这是3月28日早晨 Tidal Basin 湖边的景象。Tidal Basin 是首都华盛顿地区欣赏樱花的最佳去处。其实,湖对岸樱花更为壮观,但那里停车不便。上周末下了几场大雨,风也不小,所以🌸花落了不少。不过,游人的兴致却丝毫未减。当然,远远不及武汉大学那里游人如织。

难得雅兴。我先猜一猜两张照片中的瓷器:一元一明。

上面这张里的梅瓶和缠枝牡丹大盆应该就是著名的“元青花”;而下面的是明代景德镇的粉彩,其中黄釉碗碟,是弘治年间的东西。

这些文物像我等一样,漂洋过海来到异国他乡,每件后面都有不寻常的故事。所幸的是它们幸存下来了。下面这幅大画原来是山西洪洞县广胜寺的《药师佛经变图》。八百多年的元代壁画,历经无数战乱和天灾,所剩不多,像这样的精品更是稀世之宝。可惜“药师佛”和他的弟子们一起被一个酒肉和尚卖掉了(换来一千多大洋),时在军阀混战期间大约1928-30。

现在看到的这幅画是被切成一片片的《药师佛壁画》下壁后堆成几箱子,运到了美国再重新拼凑起来的。瘦了一次身了。大约只是原来的百分之八九十。
尽管瘦了身,总比没了身好。原来它的对壁是一幅很精彩的《善财童子五十三参》,1949年时已经断壁残垣,如今仅剩下十几个半身人像。要看《善财童子五十三参》的,请到杭州灵隐寺如来佛背面有泥塑群雕。要看真正的元代壁画,像样的只有山西运城永乐宫还有。 | | |
