Thanks for the clips and photos.
Yes, it was something like the scene shown in the above clip between 00:00:20 and 00:00:25 where people were wearing those yellow raincoats and getting poured on by the fall's water mist.
From what I remember, it also involved taking an elevator down. And the "Cave of the Winds" name sounds a bit familiar. So it very well could have been the tour described here ...
From Goat Island, visitors can also descend by elevator to Cave of the Winds and venture out along a (very wet) walking path at the foot of Bridal Veil Falls.

However, the “cantilevered platform” tour is different from the "Cave of the Winds" tour on Goat Island. Tourists take an elevator up to the cantilevered platform to get a breathtaking view of the falls, and then take the elevator down to the wharf to start the “Maid of the Mist” tour.

When you go to the Goat Island from the cantilevered platform, you have to drive or walk across a bridge above the American Falls.

Yes, I realized my mistake of using the term "cantilevered platform" when I saw in your clip the structure it referred to. I don't remember being on a platform like that. Even if we were there, I don't think something like that would have left a big impression on a 5 or 6-year-old.
My memory was more of being on the decks and walkways pictured in the Cave of the Winds tour which are also cantilevered at places to some extent. The more I read about the tour description you provided, the more it's coming back to me. Even the color of the raincoats were the same back then - of course in the mid 50's, all raincoats made and sold in the U. S. were of that color and made out of the same kind of tarp fabric. Today, they're probably all imported from China and made out of plastic

The one you took of the Boston Public Library entrance reminded me of the New York Public Library catalog room entrance. I guess it was the similarities of the arched doorway - or rather the appearance of an arch for the NYPL - and the general ambience (coloration, lighting, etc.) as seen here ...

The closest I got to a European-like city was Montreal. It must have been the French language that made it feel like a different continent to me.
Like Yueyin mentioned, at every major turning point, the only traffic indication was "Ouest" signs

New England has more European like old buildings than anywhere else in the USA, but one may not notice that because of the rolling hills and lush vegetation. In a place as flat as Wisconsin where you can see much further, the spikes of churches can be spotted miles away. The pictures above focus on old buildings of Boston, the ones below are intended to show other aspects of the city.

When it comes to the nomenclature of flowers, I like English better, roses.

查尔斯河边的露天剧台，前一天晚上跟PK兄散步路过时看到一个音乐会尾声，白天再回来看个究竟。八、九月份的草地虽已不如五、六月份时鲜嫩，但昨晚的听众们没留下垃圾。地上散片只是风吹下的树叶。

Chinatowns are always right in the middle of a city, and Boston's Chinatown is no exception.

新生报到 Boston is indeed a college town where lots of student housing is right in the city's streets. Does that remind you something? It reminded me. The only difference is that when I unpacked I had Chairman Mao's red books and when my big boy unpacked he had his Gameboy and MP3.
The Italians and the Chinese are the only ones that sell their stuff on the street like that. Chinatowns and "Little Italies" are usually next to each other, like the ones in New York and San Francisco, but this is not the case in Boston.
Where I had my most delicious lobster meal.
These lobsters are as big as my shoulder.
