Hi, I just downloaded Swordfish to try it out as my first CAT program.
I can't get past the first step, which is converting the .doc file to xliff format. It keeps on giving me the following error msg: "Selected file is not a Microsoft Office 2007 document"
Well thing is, the only selection I have in my drop down box when choosing file type for .doc is ms office 2007 - so when I chose that it wont convert it for me.

Hi,
Open your .doc files in Word and save them as .docx.
You need your files in Word 2007 format or newer for translating in Swordfish.

Some of them already are .docx even. But Swordfish still won't accept the files as that.

Make sure the files are in .docx format.
A .docx file is a zip file with XML inside.
Renaming a file doesn't change the format. You have to select the right format when saving in Word.

Hi,
You don't really need a database to translate with Swordfish.
If you have translation memories from previous works, you can use databases to reuse your memories.
If you want to build translation memories for the future, you can use databases to store your translations.
Swordfish includes a database engine (Internal) and it can also use external databases.
