Hi all!
I'd like to know if there is an option in Office for Mac to have Word and PowerPoint recognize the language I'm using automatically. This option exists for PCs and I have been using it for ages. However, I was unable to locate in the Word version for Mac. Does anyone know if this can be done? I'm tired of selecting text and changing my target language.
Thanks!
Maria

Standard language

I'm not absolutely sure if this is what you're looking for, but both Word and PowerPoint in Office for Mac let you set your standard language. In the "Utilities" menu, go to "Language", choose the language you want all your newly created documents to be in, and click on "Standard".

Automatic language recognition is apparently specific to the Windows versions of Office. It's not present in Office:Mac 2001 or Office:Mac 2008. It might have been included in the 2005 version (which I never used), although I doubt it. Perhaps the underlying reason is that it depends on specific OS support, or this may simply be product policy.

By the way, depending on how extensively and consistently your documents are formatted you may be able to set the language attribute(s) more quickly and conveniently by changing the style settings instead of selecting blocks of text and applying a language attribute. ▲ Collapse
