For mathematical texts, we need to type alpha and t both with a circumflex in MS Word. On our Macs, we can't even write ê in Word…I found out about French accents in Forums search but nothing about t or alpha…
If somebody could just type it here or on another web page, so we could simply copy it instead of buying software etc…

Special Characters Oct 10, 2003

Martin,

I'm working with Word 98 on a Mac, and whenever I need special characters like alpha or other scientific symbols, all I do is open "special characters" under the "Insert" scroll-down menu in Word. If you don't want to do that with characters you need all the time, simply assign a keyboard shortcut to it.

P.S. Please note that I'm working with the German version of Word, so "special characters" might not be exactly what the feature is called, but it must be there

"MS Equation" Oct 10, 2003

Hello Martin,

i'm afraid not every font can support these glyphes.
There's maybe another solution with the Microsoft Equation tool:
Insert > Object > Microsoft Equation
Did you already try this?

To your "ê" problem: why don't you switch to the french keyboard-layout when you have to type a text in french?

If this is not the case, selecting the french keyboard (control panels for OS 9, System Preference for OS X) is your best shot.

You can also use Key Caps application (Apple Menu Items for OS 9, Applications Folder for OS X).

As for ?(a) ?(t) you can use fonts such as symbol. Apple's shortcuts for circumflex wil not give you what you are looking for.

Equation Editor will do the trick
Select Insert Object - Microsoft Equation - Select from Greek Characters the symbol you require and them from the Primes, dots hats and other accents option select ˆ.
