Workstation design - monitor width

Hi all,

New member, first post.

I am looking for advice on choosing a monitor width before upgrading my workstation . I am considering the cost/benefit of an ultrawide (34") with a view to working with document/application/browser window side by side.

Does anyone have any views on advantages/disadvantages of this set-up, as opposed to a 29/30" monitor or multiple monitors?

Andy

I used a wide monitor and felt pain in neck since I needed to move my eyes here and there.
I am happy with 2- or 3-monitor PC system. It works best for your purposes above as well.

Well, apparently you can't really use the new Trados unless you've got at least 1500-2000 horizontal pixels available for it alone, so your screen would have to be at least twice that wide if you want to keep two more windows open on either side of it.

(not being entirely serious here)

Go with multiple monitors Sep 15, 2015

Multiple monitors are not as unwieldy, and you can position them "around" you on the same distance from your eyes. And two screens are often cheaper than one large screen, meaning you can pay for a better image (preferably IPS type panels for office work).

I use two full HD monitors in my office: one on the laptop and one external screen. Works great.
