Hi Pamela, Last month I had the same problem, I was asked for a 4000 words test. I posted a topic in the french forum ("doute sur un test de traduction"), and all the translators who work in the literary field told me 4000 words tests were absolutely normal. 300 or 500 words tests are ok for technical translation, but not for a novel.
