Now, Brian - a senior landscape and portrait painter, who learned from certified artists, perfectly knows his trade and know-hows. It was the persistence and curiosity what made him one of the best specialists. So, he can reproduce even a masterpiece, charging $500-$1000.
As far as only well-to-do and connoisseurs of art can afford original pictures and replicas sometimes, both the artists cannot promote themselves enough to make painting the primary source of income. They both feel they need more practice and more money. Unfortunately, most prospects require one-time jobs or cheap sketches.
Once Brain hears an art school student mentioning she is making $10 an hour for painting walls and fences. Why not? Even some $100 for the weekend is much better than -$50 for idling... A couple of weeks later, a neighbor asks Adam to help her painting the fence. Imagine his surprise when across the road he sees a local celebrity--Brian! Now both artists are full of cheap work.
It doesn't matter that often they are underpaid, jeered, or black-mouthed behind the eyes, let alone middlemen and Tom Sawyers.What you think:Was it a good business decision to downshift? Will Adam and Brian finally make it as famous artists? Why? ▲ Collapse

So far, so good, so... I'm sure that a few months later both Adam and Brian would become famous as mere wall-painters who prefer* wall-painting, occasionally making some money on the side by painting nice pictures. One thing is always at the expense of the other(s).
Shortly, doing mostly wall-painting they will be mostly known as wall-painters, always remaining as "amateurish" artists with ever-novice rates. Little wonder very few customers would ever ask them to paint something worthy, let alone paying them a pretty penny.
And why should clients really pay them $100-1000+ a picture? As whom?
On the other hand, there're more and more decent specialists who reluctantly agree to 'entry position' terms ("free tests", certain CATs, "wholesale standard* rates", repetition/fuzzy/volume "discounts", PEMT, some 60+ days for payment and so on), for some reason hoping for publicity, ratings, marketing, and the rest just to charge "normal" rates... some day.
And a smart client would fairly ask for sure: If yesterday you were glad to do the job for $0.05/word minus "discounts"--some $0.125/w flat, why exactly should we pay you $0.15+/word??? As whom?
Why, I also collect interesting pictures, yet have my walls and fences painted too)
