Hello
I was curious to see how much time machine transcription would save me (a non-transcriber) when transcribing. My conclusion after trying out a dozen or so online MP3-to-text converters is that it would probably save me about 20% of time, **if** the transcription is of a high quality.
Do you know of any other services, that you can recommend?

I took a well-known video on YouTube with clear audio and sent in the 40 seconds for transcription. In the examples below I added punctuation (many of these online machine transcribers do not add punctuation or capitalization).
I've noticed that quite of few of these services make use of neural transcription, i.e. they sometimes add text that can't possibly be heard but which probably occurs frequently when similar words are spoken.
I've also discovered that I tend not to spot errors made by the machine transcribers if the audio is somewhat unclear at that point or if the transcription sounds plausible. This means machine-assisted speed is higher, but accuracy can potentially suffer.

I came across some tricks with YouTube, which generates subtitles using voice recognition for all the videos you upload. (But delays are possible, since it is not an on-demand service, but rather a background feature.) The subtitles can be downloaded from the vide menu (•••) then. This is a sort of workaround, but it works. And you will have to edit.

You can use it for your PC via TeamViewer installed on both your PC and a smartphone, accessing the entry field on the PC from the smartphone via TeamViewer and supplying sound for the VRE via microphone or... mediaplayer, possibly. (I know how to capture streams within a PC by redirecting Line-out back to another Line-in. Otherwise, you can use a silent room just to play the sound from speakers for the smartphone to listen.)
My dictates translations using smartphone-to-PC as above, but I'm not sure they are perfect from the scratch. I guess the post-editing "compensates" for the time saved.

The converters didn't assign the speakers, did they? That was your work.
I've used a free mobile app, Live Transcribe from Google, to transcribe German and English videos. I just place my smartphone close to my laptop speaker and use the app to convert the audio from the videos I play into text. Copying and pasting the text in Word is clunky but it still saves me hours of work. The quality is comparable with the best transcribers you've tested.

Some of them did assign the speakers, and some of them also included time-codes, although they don't always guess correctly when it is the next speaker. I edited the output to make comparison easier.
