Buenas tardes, estoy traduciendo un informe de auditoría de Argentina y me aparece Broca y trépano (para ambos encontré Drill bit). ¿Habrá algún término para cada uno con el fin de diferenciarlos?

TRÉPANO: Máquina giratoria que se emplea en las excavaciones para perforar las rocas.

BROCA: La broca es una herramienta metálica de corte que crea orificios circulares en diversos materiales cuando se coloca en una herramienta mecánica como taladro, berbiquí u otra máquina. Su función es formar un orificio o cavidad cilíndrica.

Not entirely sure about the terminology here, but I feel it's slightly more on-point than "dismantling" ;-)

I know that certainly "trepanning" used to be a medical technique for boring into people's head, but I didn't know about these industrial applications.

Trepan /Trepan Tools are carbide cutting tools used as metal cutting tools for a large variety materials wherein deep hole boring is required. By using this tool an annular hole can be created without cutting up to the center and the core material can be retrieved.

Trepanning removes the desired diameter by cutting out a solid disk similar to the workings of a drafting compass. Trepanning is performed on flat products such as sheet metal, granite (curling stone), plates, or structural members like I-beams. Trepanning can also be useful to make grooves for inserting seals, such as O-rings.

Trepanning has been used for drilling for almost 65 years. When it comes to larger holes and removing larger amounts of material it is your best option. Also, if you are working with expensive materials such as titanium, you will have the core left to use in other projects.
