A creed is a statement of belief—usually religious belief or faith—often recited as part of a religious service. The word derives from the Latin: credo for "I believe" (because the Latin translation of the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed both begin with this word). A creed is sometimes referred to as a symbol (Greek: σύμβολο[ν], sýmbolo[n]), signifying a "token" by which persons of like beliefs might recognize each other.

A statement of belief = credo in unus Deus .... :) not the belief itself

inca putin context: belief vs. faith vs. trust A witticism goes: "Everybody should believe in something; I believe I’ll have another drink." It is more accurate to say that everybody does believe in something, even if it is belief in the ability to live without belief. Of course, even the skeptic understands that life in the material world requires certain types of belief or faith, using those terms broadly and non-theologically: the belief that stop lights will work correctly, faith that I will be given a paycheck at the end of the month, the trust that my g.asp of basic math will keep me on the good side of the IRS.

disagree Annamaria Amik : deşi nu e vorba de ro-en aici, echivalentul crezului in engleză este creed. Faith este şi un proces, o relaţie cu Dumnezeu, în timp ce crezul este o declaraţie, o mărturisire (canonică! - realizare foarte importantă în istoria creştinismului!)

Contextul mai larg ar fi util, deoarece contradictia, in fond, ar fi intre "credinta" si "religie" si nu "credinta" si "convingere religioasa" -- in plus, in Noul Testament in lb. greaca exista si mai multi termeni care redau ideea de religie (in limba engleza este mai dificil de nuantat) insa un singur cuvant reda notiunea de "credinta" anume πίστη (písti): exista in textul dvs. vreo aluzie la termenii grecesti vizati? Iata un inventar al lor (cu explicatii de nuanta):
„latreia” = adorare, închinare, serviciu divin (Romani 9:4); ,,proskyneo” = închinare, cinstire, omagiere, (Matei 28:17); ,,threskeia” = religie, formă de închinare, (Iacob 1:26,27); „deisidaimonia” = cult, religie, teamă de zei, superstiţie, reverenţă, pietate, (Fapte 25:19);
,,eusbeia” = evlavie, devoţiune sfântă, cucernicie (2Petru 1:7).

S-ar putea sa fie, pur si simplu vorba de inventarierea notiunii de "credinta" in Noul Testament (asadar, nu de o contradictie intre credinta si religie)-- in acest caz as sugera "credinta" si "convingere".

Sper ca referintele va sunt de folos.
