If I lived in a crappy place, I'd most likely refer to it as a "dump," which implies that it's low-quality, dirty or run-down.

A less polite way of phrasing it would be "shithole", but this is also commonly used.

Another option would be "hole in the wall", which implies more that it's a very small place but not necessarily a low-quality place.

A one-horse town is a town that is extremely small, with a slow pace, few amenities and no excitement.
