Bio
I am a Turkish – French – English translator having a background of industrial engineering . Turkish is my mother tongue.

My French is at native-speaker level, as I learned this language in Switzerland, where I lived from four to eight years old due to the diplomatic duty of my father. When returning back to Turkey, I attended the French Embassy’s primary school in Ankara (Ecole Charle de Gaulles) and then a French high school, Tevfik Fikret High School, where I learned English as a second foreign language when I was eleven. I obtained a lifelong certificate of French proficiency by successfully passing the DALF exam. I also obtained the certificate of equivalence to French high school diploma given by the French Embassy.

I studied industrial engineering in Baskent University in English. I also fulfilled a master of science in the same area in Cankaya University and wrote a master thesis in English. Both of these educational steps gave me a strong knowledge of technical terms and academic article writing in English. As the details can be seen in my CV, three articles I wrote were published in international/national journals and I made many presentations in international conferences. In the meantime, I made many family visits to United States and United Kingdom. This period of my life strongly improved my English abilities and this fact is proved with the “exceptional” result I obtained in the TOEFL exam. Meanwhile, I have never stopped speaking, writing and reading in French.

I worked as an industrial engineer in the private sector for six years. The details of my jobs and my fields of expertise can be seen in my CV. In all of my jobs, I was generally in interaction with many different sectors and people, which enriched me very much.
Nevertheless, in 2011, I decided to focus on my language abilities by combining them with the technical knowledge, the experience and the academic background I have as an industrial engineer. I firstly worked in the election assessment mission of OSCE/ODIHR for the parliamentary elections of Turkey in 2011 as the executive assistant/translator of the Deputy Head of Mission and the Head of Mission. Although this was a new field for me, I was told to be very capable and I received compliments regarding my diligence, my reliability, my cooperativeness, etc. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed every moment of working with this multinational team and this experience became the keystone of my following translation career.

As a freelance translator, I mostly work with translation agencies, which brings me to work on a multitude of topics. Most of the final customers appreciating my works are asking the agencies to forward their translation requests to me on a regular basis. As a result, I became specialized in specific fields. Among these fields are tender dossiers that I have prepared thoroughly for many construction companies aiming to work in Africa, in particular. I am also working on engineering documents such as technical specifications, project and training documents, usage manuals, etc. Because of my academic background, I receive very good comments when translating academic journal articles and book chapters. My professional experience is a big advantage for me in successfully translating medical and pharmaceutical documents, export/import documents, logistics documents, etc. I am also very interested in translating waste management manuals, environmental protection practices and case studies since these are the subjects I worked on in my master thesis. I have also gained experience in translating legal documents such as contracts and case results thanks to the agencies orientating me in these areas. I translated the results of the cases brought to the European Court of Human Rights concerning Turkish citizens in 2013. One of the biggest translation projects I worked for was to translate the biographies of important people for Turkish history.

I am also giving proofreading and transcription services in Turkish, English and French. Similar to my characteristic features in translation, I am also an attentive and meticulous proofreader. The quality of the language and punctuation is very important in my works.

On the other hand, I have been a part of the bureau of the group Bonjour Ankara since 2011, which is a community assembling francophones and inviting them to social activities in Ankara. Among my duties are writing articles in French in the monthly bulletin of Bonjour Ankara and organizing activities for members.

I enjoy my work and the multinational environment around me, and it shows.
