Bio
My father was a US citizen and my mother was Brazilian. By the time I was two years old, our family moved to São Paulo, Brazil, where my father was the Director of the Graded School (American School Overseas). I was raised speaking English at home and interacting with the world in Portuguese so I could already speak both languages by the age of three. By the age of six our family moved to Caracas, Venezuela and I started first grade in a Venezuelan school, where I was obligated to speak Spanish every day, while we continued to speak English at home. So by the age of seven, I had all three languages at my disposal, with all their jargon, inflections and slang included.

The rest of my upbringing was in Latin American countries, as my father worked for the US Foreign Service and we moved every couple of years. My career over the last 35 years has kept me moving from country to country in Latin America, so I have been able to maintain my fluency.

If I speak with a Brazilian, they will tell you I have a \"Carioca\" accent. They also tell me I really surprise them because they just think I\'m a \"gringo\", but I speak Portuguese \"sem sotaque\" (without accent). When I speak Spanish I get much the same reaction, but they can\'t figure out where I am from, as my Spanish to adapts to my audience over time.

I am used to translating complicated tender documents for geophysical surveys, as well as preparing proposals in any of my languages. Reviewing contracts, preparing abstracts and interpreting for presentations and seminars of a technical nature are also part of what I can do. I am also very familiar with nautical and maritime terms, as most of my work and my hobbies revolve around ships and boats, having an associates degree in Offshore Marine Technology and boating and fishing as my favorite hobbies.

I am a member of the ATA (American Translators Association), and I intend in the future to obtain certifications for translating across all my languages.
