English to Spanish: The Cottage. Unforgettable Moments// El chalet. Momentos inolvidables General field: Art/Literary
Source text - English Let me introduce myself. My name is Vlado Hejda and for more than 30 years I have been a member of a hiking club. We are almost 30 keen hikers, skiers, lovers of mountain-walking, and, of course, our wives are there too.
I would like to tell you about our experience which we shall never forget.
The main hero is my friend, my colleague from work, Ivo Milata. We spent considerable time together at the university of Zilina where we had both been teaching for more than 30 years.
Ivo already had a cottage. For more than 30 years. We all used to spend there all our Christmas periods, Easter holidays, school holidays in spring, summer and fall, and we celebrated every birthday there. We all loved it.
One part of our team decided to spend Christmas time there. Everything was all right. The other half, because we were quite many, wanted to spend Epiphany there. So we set off. The bus took us to the end of the village. We got off and walked.
Honestly, our first stop was the village` s only pub. Everybody knew us there, we were those whom you would call Stammgäste. But we left very soon and went on our way singing towards the cottage. It was a long way so we sang songs, told jokes and laughed very much.
But all of a sudden there was an incredible scream. It was Ivo. Brokenhearted.
“What´s happened?” the others kept asking. Ivo fell down and cried. He saw his cottage in the distance, but instead of a nice building under the heavy snow (of which he had been taking care of for 30 years), there was his cottage, totally burnt out.
Oh, what a shock! Terrible things must have happened there. But what? The first group had left just after Christmas, and it was now January the 5th, no one knew about a fire or anything else….
Some of us ran back to the village, but the villagers did not know anything about it. Ivo was on the point of fainting. His beloved cottage…
Later, we all realized that it had been because of an old and broken electricity system, or something similar. Only a coincidence and an accident!
But after the first shock, and a sip of “slivovica” because it was Ivo`s 74th birthday and he 100% had not deserved such a present, we all promised to help him to build a new cottage. And we all kept our promise.
Look at the photos! They are called: Please, find the difference!
For more information, surf on the web and try the link http://milata.rajce.idnes.cz/. There we are all helping our nice companion to rebuild the cottage of his life and making his dream come true.
So precious is the power of the friendship.
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.

Translation - Spanish Permítanme que me presente. No había ningún problema. Bajamos yempezamos a caminar. Vlado, Zilina, Eslovaquia
English to Spanish: ST PAUL’S ISLANDS//ISLAS DE SAINT PAUL General field: Marketing Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Source text - English This area represents another very significant pointin Maltese history. In 60AD, The Apostle St. Paulwas shipwrecked on the small islands in thedistance. He was shipwrecked here on his way asa prisoner to Rome and spent three months on theIsland until his ship was repaired. He was the firstto introduce Christianity to the then pagan people. It is interesting to note that in Malta, we never faced persecution for being Christian.

governors of the time allowed the local people to
practise their faith quite freely and as can be seen
from the many churches and chapels around the
Island, religion still plays an important role in the
lives of Maltese families. St. Paul is venerated as
the patron saint of Malta. A number of parishes
throughout Malta and Gozo are dedicated to him.
After St. Paul’s eventual martyrdom, Malta became
a place of pilgrimage and devotion towards the
great apostle of the gentiles. Religious relics and
souvenirs were purchased from a holy cave in
Rabat where St. Paul is believed to have lived.
These purchases included pieces of rocks or
sharks’ teeth, referred to as apostles’ tongues.
People used to protect themselves from the
dangers of poison such as arsenic, using stone
cups cut from the cave in Rabat where St. Paul
lived. Little did they know, that this is caused by a
natural reaction of the arsenic with the calcium and
the bicarbonate.
Spanish to English: Sobre el artista Vila-Rovira (por Josep Sandoval)// About the artist Vila-Rovira (by Josep Sandoval) General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Translation - English It is always a surprise when someone like Vila-Rovira offers you the chance to drop a line about his work. I was absolutely unaware of his liking, just as he ignored that I had studied Fine Arts and had spent many hours drawing boats on the fishermen’s beach, in the middle of Barceloneta. I kept thousands of those sketches that, together with other ones I had outlined from life when I was a student in the Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc and also under the tutelage of Víctor Esteban Ripaux. My hobby was, in a way, involved in writing, mainly because I started specializing in drama, and I even ended up directing some groups and designing some stages. After all, these activities belong to the same branch, remote relatives of the same interest.
I have been pleasantly surprised by my friend Ramon’s idea. However, it is difficult for me to find a connection between operating, dissecting a body to correct or embellish it and grapping a palette to represent an inner world that spends a lot of time into a shell shaped like an operating theatre, a place that has nothing to do with, a priori, such volatile thing -Art. An inner world wrapped into a green gown, handling instruments I could not even clean, but also paintbrushes, charcoals and other tools that, perhaps because they are familiar to me, I feel they belong to my emotional life. In my opinion, this is where human sensibility emerges, either from a professional facet or simply as an exercise of relaxation. One day he will have to tell me how he manages to get the time, because working on a piece of art (why not?), demands a lot of hours. Inspiration comes up and everything must be ready. It is no good, as far as I have learnt through experience, to consider the contrary, saying “I do not have anything to do, let us see what comes”. Specially in Vila-Rovira’s case, with such a long and curious list of topics.
I like his collages, I feel restless by the use of particular elements, as snail shells and corks, shoes in some occasions. Suddenly, his work changes completely. It turns into happy landscapes dominated by green and other lively colours. However, maybe flat facades aggressively coloured lie behind this vision, although they are always located in island views. Once again, we are shocked by the appearance of some half Surrealist half Dadaist figures, presented next to flat seascapes and gloomy interiors, despite the impertinent colour, which dominates the situation but not distress. Vila-Rovira’s characters hardly have face, it is only traced or blurred, drowsy. We could say that doctor’s models most prominent attitude is sleepiness. They seem absent from reality, under anesthetic, maybe? His characters, dressed or nude, are expectant and anguished, but we do not know the reason for this time that somehow floats around them, no clue is provided. It is curious the fact that the bodies look a little bit dull, but not lazy, escaping from a hand that controls them without knowing where to go. They are dominated by the straight line of a paintbrush-shaped bistouri that dares to eliminate their contexts. In this desperate expectation (perhaps the waiting rooms of the hospitals?), the elements are the witnesses of someone who has just passed or is going to pass them, but they establish themselves as the main characters of the space.
Vila-Rovira launches into everything he craves for. He is bold and brave, grabs the bistouri firmly to perform a cut on the proper place. Once red, from the pigment or the blood, runs on the whiteness of the canvas or the operating table, the result is considered a piece of art. Parallel works, they do not outshine each other. Profession and liking take turns. In any case, is the feeling what must have the last word about the result.

I always loved languages, since I was only a little girl, and I have always had a special motivation for communication too. I like the idea of helping people understanding what they cannot understand. Probably, this is why I became a translator.
They say "traduttore, tradittore". Mmmm…I do not believe it so. If done well, with care and love, it is very possible to fully understand the meaning of an original text and translating it into a language. Sometimes it is not easy, but I am a willing and tenacious person, and results always come.
