Bio

What I do

I am a Swedish translator working from French, English and Spanish into Swedish. I specialize in two main fields:

- Marketing translation, mainly within the field of sports and outdoor activities. I'm always curious to learn about (and try out!) new sports and getting to know the specific words and expressions used within them, so that I can make my translations really speak to Swedish sports enthusiasts. I also regularly work on texts in completely different fields, everything from arboriculture to astrobiology. Luckily I really enjoy learning new things.

Just as important as getting the technical terms right is adapting the tone of voice to make the reader really feel that the text is written for them. That creative aspect is to me the charm of marketing translation.

- Subtitling of films, series and documentaries. Compressing the spoken message into a subtitle that can only be long enough to give the viewer time to read it comfortably is a real challenge – and a fun one!

My background

I have a French bachelor's degree in Spanish and English language and culture (that's Licence de langues étrangères appliquées in French) with translation as a specialty. I have taken a couple of courses at Swedish schools and universities as well, in writing and other subjects.

By living in France and Spain I've learned things that school doesn't teach you, like colloquial expressions, cultural references and the level of formality people use when talking to each other, depending on their relationship. This knowledge helps me read between the lines, and adapt as needed for a Swedish audience.
