Infolge globaler Vernetzungen und sich ändernder Geografien ist auch die Kunstgeschichte herausgefordert, ihre eigenen wissenschaftlichen und fachspezifischen Parameter zu überdenken, die nicht selten ihren Ursprung in dem von Nationalstaaten geprägten Geschichtsverständnis des ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts haben. Im Kontext dieser Überlegungen ist auch das vorliegende Buch zu verorten. Es entwickelte sich aus den Diskussionen des 17. Nachwuchskolloquiums für Kunstgeschichte in der Schweiz, das am 6. und 7. November 2015 am Kunsthistorischen Institut der Universität Zürich stattfand. Mit dem Ziel, den anlässlich dieser Tagung begonnenen institutions- und sprachübergreifenden Dialog zu globalen Fragestellungen und Methoden der Kunstgeschichte weiterzuführen, greifen die einzelnen Nachwuchsforscherinnen und -forscher spezifische Themen wieder auf. Die zugrundeliegende Idee ist folgende: Jeder Beitrag geht von einem Werk der Kunst oder der Architektur aus, der in einer einseitigen Farbabbildung den Text einleitet. Mit einer besonderen Fragestellung entwickeln die Autorinnen und Autoren eine eigene theoretische, methodische und thematische Herangehensweise für dieses Werk hinsichtlich einer Kunstgeschichte im globalen Kontext. Die entstandenen Texte sind als explorative Essays zu verstehen, die die Möglichkeiten einer solchen Kunstgeschichte erproben.
Translation - English Introduction
Global networks and changing geographies have challenged art history to reconsider its academic and discipline-specific parameters, many of which originated in nineteenth-century notions of history based on the nation-state. This book is situated within the context of these reflections. It grew out of discussions from the 17th Colloquium for Young Researchers of Art History in Switzerland that took place on November 6 and 7, 2015, at the University of Zurich’s Institute of Art History. With the goal of continuing the cross-institutional and multilingual dialogue that began at the conference, the contributors picked up on specific themes related to global issues and methods in art history. The underlying concept is as follows: each contribution takes as a starting point, a particular work of art or architecture, an illustration of which accompanies the text. Guided by a particular research question, the authors develop their own theoretical, methodological, and thematic approach to the work in regards to situating art history within a global context. The resulting texts should be understood as exploratory essays, which test out the possibilities of such an approach to art history.
