Bio
I am an ATA-certified translator from English to Spanish, and hold a Masters in Latin American Literature and Culture from the University of London and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Film Studies and Women's Studies from Queen's University at Kingston, Canada.

I have worked as a writer and editor in different media (television, print media and the first Internet portals in the country). I later opened Mexico's first literary agency with two associates, and won a grant from the Keep Walking Foundation for our project. In 2005 I began to work as editorial coordinator for Mexico's leading parenting magazine and participated in its launch and consolidation for nearly three years, and have continued to freelance as a journalist and translator for a variety of major magazines and publishers.

I recently earned a grant from Translation House Looren in Switzerland to translate a children's novel and won second place and two honourable mentions from the Latino Books Awards for my translation into English of three picture books. I also won the Kathleen A. Herman Award for Women's Studies at Queen's University, granted yearly to the best essay in all disciplines related to the subject.

I am also the founder and co-owner of Catarina Marina, an award-winning children's bookstore in Cuernavaca, Mexico. We opened six years ago, spearheading a cultural enterprise effort attempting to create community and dialogue and foster reading through constant literary activities for children of all ages. Among other recognitions, the bookshop has received the Guadalajara Book Fair's National Bookstore Award and the state-wide Morelos Prize for Cultural Enterprise.
