La Conquista fue el primer gran cambio tecnológico que se impuso en la región andina. Se introdujeron especies nuevas de vegetales, como el haba y el arroz, y también animales como la oveja, cabra, cerdo y el ganado bovino. Como en cualquier proceso de cambio, esto tuvo consecuencias negativas y positivas. La oveja y el bovino reemplazaron en gran parte la crianza de camélidos en el Altiplano, por lo que desapareció parte de la fauna de las praderas naturales. Sin embargo, hoy en día estas especies de animales están incorporadas en las estrategias de vida de la mayoría de las familias andinas.
Translation - English Pre-hispanic Andean agriculture was based on original crops, such as potatoes, oca (indigneous tuber), yucca and tomato as well as animals like camelids and guinea pigs. The Spanish conquest was the first big technological change imposed on the Andean region. New species of vegetables were introduced, such as fava bean and rice, and also animals like sheep, goats, pigs and cattle. As in any process of change, this had negative and positive consequences. Sheep and cows largely replaced camelid husbandry in the Altiplano, thus causing the disappearance of part of the fauna of the natural grasslands. Nevertheless, today these animal species are incorporated into the way of life of the majority of Andean families.
