JaneD . It's easy to learn, which is the only plus point, and that's only because it does so little that there's not much *to* learn.
As an alternative to a serious CAT tool like Trados Studio or others, it's completely inadequate. The filters are unhelpful, the autopropagation simply doesn't – MateCat's claim that "you'll never have to translate the same sentence twice" is true in that you won't have to type it in exactly the same format, but if it's got a row of dots appended at the end, woe betide you. Or if it's a number. Or if it's a date.
I could go on and on, but I haven't time because even after swearing in the past that I'd never accept another large job in this tool (I can just about cope with it for texts of a few hundred words)... I have stupidly done so again and I still have several hours' work to go. If I'd been able to do it in a real CAT tool I'd be finished by now!

How easy is it to learn?

Michele Essman . I just worked on a large project using MateCat for the first time and my experience has been absolutely terrible. The cloud connectivity is subject to terrible lags, my ability to navigate through the large number of segments assigned to me is severely comprimised, and the tool set available to me is ridiculously limited. I would have been done with this project days ago in any other tool I can think of. I am a professional translator and I expect a CAT tool to offer the same level of professional performance. This product is extremely "amateur hour". The only slight positive I can offer is that the bugs that added to the lack of productivity seem to be addressed fairly quickly, but only to be followed by another issue. I will avoid this software at all costs in the future.

Simon Vigneault . Matecat works well for how it is designed. Probably it's greatest strength is its simplicity. The drawback is lack of extra functions (e.g. you can't conveniently merge segments) and viewing options, in contrast to other tools like Fluency. Generally it is very good at maintaining formatting, though sometimes is too crowded with tags. Basically a good, functional tool. Software help is excellent.

ranchik . I have done hundreds of jobs with Matecat. Sometimes it is a great tool that saves you a lot of time. But sometimes it can also be very slow and it does not handle tags very well. I give it 5 stars for smaller texts, but I don't like using it for bigger texts. I do like that you can import your own TM and I also think that the quality of the automatic matches is very good.

Nicolas Schreiber . Good tool with good MT, but sometimes it goes offline or has tech issues, you can´t download the translation, etc. So it´s good for translations, but not 100% reliable.
