Side-by-side comparison of this tool with others from the "CAT tools" category: Compare more than two tools at once → How easy is it to learn? Worst CAT ever Review by Ryan Saxon Montcalm . Terrible price, especially given its popularity. I never have understood why this product is so popular. It performs terribly, it is way overpriced and cost-ineffective, very difficult to use and has terrible customer service. 1 out of 3 found this review helpful. How easy is it to learn? Increases customer base, boosts confidence, gives pleasure Review by Victor Donkov . I love SDL Trados Studio, because it:• Increases my customer base; • Boosts my confidence; • Gives me pleasure. I used to get an increasing number of offer requests from customers requiring the use of Trados. Often they would assign the work to someone else, just because he or she would work with Trados. Now that I have bought SDL Trados Studio my customers have increased. Using Trados allows me to provide consistent translations because it stores my previously translated segments in a term bank and offers me to use them again when they reappear thus increasing the quality of my work and boosting my confidence. Working on forms or similar content source documents (like financial statements) is faster with Trados. I finish assignments earlier in the day and have more time to spend for pleasure. Plus, SDL offer more than just a CAT tool. They make translating an enjoyable experience by making you a part of a “community” (https://community.sdl.com/?Redirected=true) where you can exchange ideas with fellow translators, or by organizing various competitions you can actually win (believe me). 2 out of 7 found this review helpful. 5 out of 15 found this review helpful. How easy is it to learn? Fastest CAT tool Review by Sanja_FR . While it can be intimidating at first, as there are a lot of settings, options and process which are not always useful, I think it is the most pleasant CAT tool to work with. Autosuggest is really super useful (I pretty much can't work without it now). Once you understand how everything works it's really the best you can work on. I also work with MemoQ, Memsource and TM tool, none of which hold a candle to Studio. How easy is it to learn? Trados in 2021 is absolutely ridiculous Review by Anton Akopov . Using Trados in 2021 is ridiculous. There's MemoQ, Memsource, SmartCAT — incomparably easier to use and more accessible in every possible way.Trados is built like Microsoft Office, dedicating a separate app to every function, even though a CAT system is supposed to be a single piece of software that handles everything. Turning specific text into inline tags requires a *separate app*. Creating glossaries requires a *separate app*. And TMs. You can't easily export either into an easy-to-handle format like xlsx—something any other CAT system I've used can do. Trados doesn't seem to know how to handle formatting. While every other CAT system knows that formatting has to be turned into tags and the CAT should only display plain text, Trados can't make up its mind about this, interspersing tags with actual formatting within the app. The UI comprised of multiple awkward windows is unintuitive, unwieldy and generally feels like it's from 2004. On top of that it has the audacity of being terribly slow and prone to crashing. In the age where most CATs have a strong online component or can even be used in web interface, Trados can barely handle online updates of TMs, making it basically completely unsuitable for team projects. To draw a comparison, imagine that Adobe kept selling the same version of Photoshop they came up with in 2005, except at a much higher price, and there were still people around who claimed it was the best image-editing app, even though Gimp, Krita and paint.NET were also around and actually being actively developed. The difference is that in reality Photoshop is still progressing and, despite outrageous pricing, does have at least some features that its competitors can't offer (yet). Trados, on the other hand, has nothing. |
