Translate prose or poetry from Turkish into English and win a specially tailored translation mentorship in UK from British Centre for Literary Translation!

This opportunity is open for everyone aged 18 to 40 who translates from Turkish into English.

In order to apply for the Best Prose Translation prize, entrants must submit their translations of one several pieces by İnci ARAL, Fatih ERDOĞAN, and/or Can DÜNDAR. To apply for the Best Poetry Translation prize, entrants must submit their translations of one or a few pieces by Haydar ERGÜLEN and/or Küçük İSKENDER. All of the pieces are listed at the competition website.

The winning translations will be chosen by a panel of expert judges including Maureen Freely (distinguished writer and translator), Daniel Hahn (Programme Director, British Centre for Literary Translation), Mevlüt Ceylan (Yunus Emre Institute, London),Susanna Nicklin (Director of Literature, British Council), İlknur Özdemir (publisher and translator, Kırmızı Kedi Publishing), and Tarık Günersel (Head of PEN, Turkey). The winners will be announced at a reception in November 2012.
