Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.
Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.
Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.

Ju lapsena teesid armastas meel,

My professional career of 30+ years has enabled me to master various jobs, such as translating, editing, proofreading, quality assurance, interpreting, and language instruction. For more details, please feel free to read my CV from the tab above.
Though I have been active for many years, it does not mean that I could rest on laurels and ignore developments in my fields. To keep up with them, I recently completed a master's program in translation study at the internationally acclaimed University of Tartu, Estonia.
Contrary to a widespread belief that anyone with some command of languages involved can translate between them, my career has shown that a successful translation or any other linguistic task requires much more than merely replacing the words in a sentence. For a text representing the author's intentions and ideas the best, it takes three E's – empathy, expertise and experience. Translating also relies on knowing closely any (sub)cultures involved. And now and then, one must be humble enough to admit ignorance and make up for the missing. These are the strengths that I put in use when undertaking any task.
