The word "introvert" is a pretty loaded term, really. It's hard to define the exact qualities that make someone introverted or extroverted. Being an introvert is hard, especially when your accomplishments thrust you into the public eye. There's a fine line between introversion and shyness, but introverts often experience both. Introverts prefer solitude, are quiet by nature, tend to be curious and contemplative, and do their best thinking alone. As a result, they may come across as aloof, standoffish, or just plain rude. Introverted musicians like Michael Jackson and Prince were known to live extremely private lives out of the limelight despite their very public careers.
Throughout history, famous introverted leaders have fooled us all, becoming some of the most prosperous and influential men and women of their times. Maybe they were uncomfortableand just counting down the minutes until they could go home, but these are some of the most ground-breaking, famous historical introverts to have ever lived.
Albert Einstein Laid The Groundwork For Atomic Energy
One of the most important scientists of the 20th century, Albert Einstein was on the record as an introvert. Known for quotes like "Be a loner. That gives you time to wonder, to search for the truth. Have holy curiosity. Make your life worth living" and "I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity,"
Einstein, the physicist who developed the theory of relativity, was German-born, incessantly curious, and a determined non-conformist. Beyond the theory of relativity—one that challenged Newtonian physics and scientific notions about gravity—Einstein also developed the predecessor to atomic power. His formula, E=MC2, suggested that matter could be converted to energy in such vast amounts that atomic power was possible.
Einstein took seriously his responsibility as a scientist. He once said, "Although I am a typical loner in my daily life, my awareness of belonging to the invisible community of those who strive for truth, beauty, and justice has prevented me from feelings of isolation." Even with that attitude, however, Einstein was increasingly isolated in the 1930s as he tried to develop a "unified field theory," which would blend the laws of the universe and the laws of physics. Nikola Tesla Revolutionized Electricity
Nikola Tesla, the introverted inventor from Serbia-Croatia, is often pitied for his reclusive nature because it may have been, in part, why he didn't get credit for his accomplishments during his lifetime. One of many brilliant scientists who preferred to be by himself, Tesla was of the opinion that isolation was the best way to foster creativity.
“The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude," he said. "Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us to cripple the creative mind. Be alone — that is the secret of invention: be alone. That is when ideas are born.”
As the inventor of the Tesla coil and a revolutionary in early AC (alternating current) power systems, Tesla made his way to the United States in 1884. He briefly worked with fellow inventor Thomas Edison, but they had creative and business differences that resulted in each of them venturing out on their own. Tesla developed a system of wireless electricity for a group of investors in the late 1890s and early 1900s, but he was out-funded by his rivals, including Edison.
It's widely believed that many of Tesla's contemporaries stole his ideas. Thomas Edison brought Tesla into his "invention factory" and used the employee's ideas to get patents while Guglielmo Marconi took credit for Tesla's short-range radio communication technology. Tesla withdrew from the world and became more and more eccentric, perhaps falling victim to mental illness. Although he lived on the 33rd floor of a New York hotel for the last years of his life, he died alone and in debt in 1943. With or without credit, Tesla's contributions remain an important part of his legacy.
Isaac Newton Discovered Gravity
Isaac Newton, born in 1643, was the father of modern physics and an extremely introverted person. His desire to be alone started when he was a young boy, perhaps related to his sickly nature and tumultuous relationship with his mother. Even when he was a student at Cambridge, Newton was a loner, extremely private, and temperamental. This behavior continued throughout his life. He never married, had very few, if any, friends, and was almost paranoid when it came to betrayal and criticism.
His unsavory qualities didn't make Isaac Newton someone with whom you'd want to spend time, but he did have a brilliant mind; Newton's law of universal gravitation solidified the idea that the Earth wasn't at the center of the solar system and set the foundation for future studies of the universe. He also developed laws of motion and infinitesimal calculus, adding to his legacy as a scientific revolutionary.
Bill Gates Has Changed Computers And Charity Forever
Microsoft founder Bill Gates admits to being shy child who loved to read but, like a true introvert, Gates can go from hiding in his shell to being outspoken on the turn of a dime when it comes to what he's passionate about.
Being shy and being introverted aren't always the same thing, but Gates has grappled with both. Lucky for Gates, who founded Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975, he has managed to channel his introverted nature into success. Other computer innovators have been called introverts as well, namely Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple.
In 2013, Gates commented on how to use introversion as a positive quality, telling an audience during a Q&A, "I think introverts can do quite well. If you’re clever you can learn to get the benefits of being an introvert, which might be, say, being willing to go off for a few days and think about a tough problem, read everything you can, push yourself very hard to think out on the edge of that area."
Gates has taken his own advice, not only in computing but in philanthropy. He joined forces with Warren Buffett on "The Giving Pledge" in 2010 and has started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife. The Gates Foundation is the largest private charitable organization in the world.
Eleanor Roosevelt Was A Champion For Universal Human Rights
In her autobiography, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt describes herself as "shy" and "solemn" from as young as two years old. She describes how she was raised to avoid social situations, in large part because her family considered her to be an "ugly ducking." After the deaths of her parents, she was sent to live with her domineering grandparents who, much to her embarrassment, called her "Granny." Eleanor was increasingly quiet and reserved, but its unclear if the quality was a response to her surroundings, if she was intrinsically inclined, or both.
Once Eleanor went to study at Allenswood Academy in England, she was exposed to the concepts of individualism of women and social responsibility, both of which she brought back to the United States where she began to advocate for social reform. In 1905, Eleanor married her distant cousin, Franklin, and the two were soon thrust into the political spotlight.
Eleanor was supportive of her husband and consciously chose to be socially active. After he was elected president, Eleanor took on the traditional duties of a First Lady, which included traveling and making public appearances. But she also took time to advocate for women, African Americans, the economically disadvantaged, and the arts. After her husband's death in 1945, Eleanor continued to work toward social reform. She became became a representative of the United States at the United Nations and oversaw the UN's charter of liberties, "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights," in 1948.
That said, she was never shy about her desire to stay behind the scenes. In 1935, she wrote in her syndicated newspaper column, "I wonder if any one else glories in cold and snow without, an open fire within, and the luxury of a tray of food all by one’s self in one’s own room?" Abraham Lincoln Gave One Of The Most Famous Speeches Of All Time
Historians have long referred to Abraham Lincoln as an introverted leader despite his very public persona, his ability to deliver dynamic speeches, and his continued importance in history. Lincoln came from humble beginnings, growing up in Kentucky and then Illinois, where he studied law and entered politics, proving himself to be an eloquent and passionate communicator.
Lincoln was self-made, thrived as he pursued knowledge, and was content with the thoughts in his head. At the same time, he stood up for the causes he believed in and was extremely empathetic, qualities that allowed him to be an effective leader. As the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln faced unprecedented challenges and often resorted to a "loner mentality" as a result. During the Civil War, he was noticeably solemn, thoughtful, and introspective, to the point where he was called "peculiar." Contemporaries comment on his "individualism" and "melancholy" as well.
Lincoln's writings reveal his introspective nature, as he noted everything from his political adversaries to slavery. It makes sense that when asked how long it took him to write the Gettysburg Address, he responded "all my life."
Rosa Parks Stood Up By Not Standing Up
Almost universally described as "shy" and "soft-spoken," Rosa Parks is known for her single act of defiance in 1955. Rosa Parks, born Rosa McCauley, was shy from a young age but was also known to have a "feisty" personality. When she was just a child, she threatened a bully who beat up her brother, pushing back against the discrimination that characterized early 20th century society in her native Alabama.
As a member of the local chapter of the NAACP, Parks was an activist long before the incident in 1955 that sparked the bus boycott in Montgomery, AL. Parks was unassuming, and when she refused to give her seat to a white traveler, she spoke for a larger movement. Parks had been kicked off that same bus before and risked her own safety to take such a bold stance.
Perhaps one of Rosa Parks' friends put it best: Elaine Steele commented that her friend "was a soft-spoken person, but it didn’t mean she wasn’t brilliant."
Dr. Seuss Is Still Helping Children Learn How To Read
Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, preferred to keep to himself and was nothing like many of the outgoing characters he created for the page. Geisel was born in 1904 and studied at Dartmouth and Oxford. He worked as a cartoonist and in advertising before publishing his first children's book in 1937.
According to Susan Cain, author and co-founder of the Quiet Revolution, a group dedicated to "unlocking the potential of introverts," Geisel "spent his workdays ensconced in his private studio, the walls lined with sketches and drawings, in a bell-tower outside his La Jolla, California, house... he rarely ventured out in public to meet his young readership, fretting that kids would expect a merry, outspoken, Cat in the Hat-like figure, and would be disappointed with his reserved personality." Geisel admitted that in large numbers, children terrified him.
Geisel's contribution to children's literature is substantial: he wrote more than 60 books, often laden with morals and lessons, encouraging adults and children alike to view the world through a new lens. From Horton Hears A Who's anti-discrimination message to The Lorax's warnings about environmental exploitation, Dr. Seuss was able to communicate his thoughtfulness to the masses. That said, his works are not without controversy.
Charles Darwin Changed How The World Thinks About Evolution
Charles Darwin's book, The Origin of the Species, was controversial and dangerous for its ideas about natural selection, the story of man's existence, and its perceived anti-religious stance. Darwin studied science in Scotland and divinity at Cambridge, collecting bugs and listening to lectures on transmutation before venturing out on a five-year sea voyage as a "gentleman naturalist."
Darwin was passionate about biology; he loved to take quiet walks, look at nature, and spend time by himself. The voyage aboard the HMS Beagle, however, was something he couldn't turn down. As Darwin visited South America, the Galapagos Islands, and other remote parts of the world, he observed and collected data about plants and animals. What he saw and eventually wrote about would challenge the ideas of naturalists everywhere. According to Darwin, transmutation, or evolution, was real. He hypothesized that it was a slow process, facilitated by natural selection or "the preservation of a functional advantage that enables a species to compete better in the wild."
Darwin was very concerned about his findings and was hesitant to publish them for fear of the backlash. This may or may not have been driven by his introversion, but after he went public, his ideas revolutionized how scientists saw nature and humanity. His ideas were later applied to politics, society, and culture, and continue to be controversial to this day.
Mahatma Gandhi Became A Role Model For Activism
In his autobiography, Gandhi wrote, "I used to be very shy and avoided all company. My books and my lessons were my sole companions. To be at school at the stroke of the hour and to run back home as soon as the school closed—that was my daily habit. I literally ran back, because I could not bear to talk to anybody. I was even afraid lest anyone should poke fun at me."
Mohandas Gandhi, later called "Mahatma" or "great soul," used his introversion to bring about great social change. Gandhi was born in India in 1869, studied law in Britain, and practiced as a lawyer in South Africa before returning to his homeland in 1891. Gandhi realized he needed to challenge his introversion, but also prided himself on his ability to maintain silence, to formulate his thoughts, and use words effectively. Steven Spielberg has made some of the most important, influential, and successful movies of all time—and he's an introvert. As a director, producer, and writer, Spielberg can take credit for films like E.T., Jaws, Saving Private Ryan, and countless others. He's pushed boundaries, wowed audiences, and scored at the box office over and over again.
Spielberg grew up a quiet child, and while his parents moved around quite a bit, he found comfort in being an introvert. The anti-Semitism he faced as a youth, however, only contributed to his introverted nature. Spielberg commented that the "effect it had on me was to turn me into a loner. It made me withdrawn and self-conscious and even turned me away from my family, who I was angry at for making me a Jew… I think I would have been a social reject anyway, even if I had been Protestant or Lutheran or Episcopalian. Warren Buffett Is The Introvert Who Made Billions Of Dollars
American businessman and investor Warren Buffett is one of the wealthiest men on the planet and, as he freely admits, he had to step outside of his introverted comfort zone to make it happen. However, his introverted nature played a substantial role in making him the successful man he is today. Buffett, called the Oracle of Omaha for his wisdom and insights into investing and the economy, was an entrepreneur from a young age and began investing when he was just 11 years old. He had a good mind for business, but as he got older, he realized he didn't have the personality he needed to work with others or speak publicly.
Buffett dedicated himself to overcoming the problem—he researched introversion and analyzed options for how to be more of an extrovert when necessary. But he didn't totally abandon his introverted ways. His net worth in 2017 was estimated at $87 billion, much of which he donated to charity. As an introverted self-starter and leader, he's called on other billionaires to follow his philanthropic lead and take the Giving Pledge to donate half of their wealth to charities.
J. K. Rowling Created An Entire Universe
Author J.K. Rowling, whose given name is Joanne, is proud of her introverted nature and even attributes some of her success to it. Rowling created the Harry Potter series while sitting on a delayed train. She says that without being introspective, she would never have been able to conjure up the fantasy that has become a worldwide sensation. Rowling said of when she had the idea, "To my immense frustration, I didn't have a pen that worked, and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one... I did not have a functioning pen with me, but I do think that was probably a good thing. I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, while all the details bubbled up in my brain." Frédéric Chopin Changed Piano Playing Forever
Frederic Chopin was a 19th century musical genius who hated to play in front of a crowd. The composer and pianist was born in Poland in 1810, where he proved himself to be a skilled musician from a young age. He moved to Vienna and then Paris in 1830 where he worked as a musical teacher. He earned a reputation for his talent and soon found himself among the Parisian artistic and intellectual elite. He became close friends with fellow musician Ferec Liszt, the extrovert to his introverted ways. The two men were opposites: where Chopin preferred to stay out of the spotlight, Liszt was more than happy to be on stage.
Chopin composed numerous works while in Paris, focusing on the piano. He was the first "composer of genius" to solely commit himself to playing piano and was noted for his ability to evoke emotion with his melodic pieces. When you first think of Ayn Rand, author of works like The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, you may not think she was an introvert. An outspoken advocate for individualism, Rand was born in Russia in 1905 (her given name was Alissa Zinovievna Rosenbaum) and traveled to the United States in 1926. She took the name Ayn Rand and soon began work in Hollywood as a screenwriter. She wrote plays and eventually authored novels that made clear her political, ethical, and philosophical ideas about economics and society. Her "objectivism," as she later called it, "is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

Frédéric Chopin cambió la forma de tocar el piano para siempre
Frederic Chopin fue un genio musical del siglo XIX quien odiaba tocar el piano frente de multitudes. Con la presente actividad pretendemos que reflexiones sobre los factores que intervienen en una planificación adecuada del tiempo de estudio. Para ello vas a contestar individualmente lo que piensas sobre los casos que e planteamos. Posteriormente realizaremos una puesta en común. Finalmente, el tutor expondrá unos consejos para que te organices y panifiques mejor los estudios y tareas.
1.- PLANIFICAR EL TRABAJO: ESTUDIO DE CASOS: EL CIRUJANO
El doctor López-Costurón es un cirujano con una gran autoestima; se considera un gran profesional. Ha escrito como organiza su tiempo de trabajo y tú vas a valorar si lo hace bien o mal. Pon una X después de cada frase en la columna Bien o Mal según como creas que lo haga.

10-Otras veces reservo 15 minutos para una operación complicada.
11.-Cuando me llaman por teléfono en medio de una intervención, la interrumpo por si es una llamada importante. Lo mismo hago si me hablan o recuerdo algo que tengo que hacer.
12.-Mientras estoy operando me gusta pensar en lo que haré el fin de semana con mis amigos. Eso me sirve para hacer más llevadero el rato.
13.-Cuando tengo que hacer una operación, no lo anoto en ningún sitio, o uso papelitos que se me pierden muchas veces, pero casi siempre me acuerdo

2. PLANIFICAR EL TRABAJO: ESTUDIO DE CASOS: EL DEPORTISTA
Imagínate que eres un destacado deportista. Has sido seleccionado por tu federación para participar en el próximo campeonato del mundo que se celebrará dentro de un año. Hasta entonces tendrás que participar en otras competiciones de menor nivel. Hoy tienes una reunión con tu equipo para diseñar el trabajo de preparación del año. En la sesión se van exponiendo distintas opiniones. Algunas de ellas están aquí recogidas. Léelas despacio y marca con X si la opinión te parece Aceptable o Rechazable.

11.-Un esfuerzo diario mantiene el cuerpo en forma. Si paramos más de dos o tres días, tendremos que esforzarnos más para recuperar la forma.

Source text - English GROW YOUR DENTAL PRACTICE USING FACEBOOK MARKETING
Marketing for dentists has changed since the days when every practice got its new clients when they were brought in by their parents. It was pretty much a case of setting up shop, turn up and the patients will come, especially when every surgery offered the same relatively small range of treatments, like fillings, extractions, dentures and crowns.
Now, however, there’s a much wider range of treatment options and most dental practices have to specialise and compete with other practices to get on and grow. This means that it’s time to bring out the big guns of social media.
Many dental practices haven’t taken full advantage of Facebook and so they’re really missing out on opportunities to reach new patients and to grow their practices. Here are some easy FB strategies to bring in fresh blood.
Use Facebook dark posts
As sinister as they sound, dark posts are actually quite benign. They’re called dark posts because they don’t show up on your audience’s organic FB feed or on your timeline either. They’re adverts that look like a News Feed item and the great thing about them is that they can be targeted to the individual Facebook account.
As we’ve seen in the news recently, Facebook has a lot of data and this data is invaluable for small businesses – like a dental practice. Dark posts let you create ads in the form of updates, videos, special offers and just simple photos, then use well-researched and targeted keywords based on the demographic data FB has collected to hit the right people.
Of course, you’ll need to create a number of different ads – implants for older people, braces for the parents of teens, free check-ups for toddlers and so on. Use each one for a few days at a time and see how much your traffic (and hopefully your bookings) increases. You’ll find out which ad works best and then you can go from there.
Use a vanity URL
If you have a business Facebook page it’ll give you the option to use a vanity URL, which is a shorter URL used for marketing. For example, your dental practice’s vanity URL could be www.facebook.com/docyankem/. If you don’t choose the vanity URL, you’ll get the same address but with loads of numbers on the end, which isn’t great for brand recognition and sharing.
Use your check-in feature
When someone checks into a shop, an airport or, indeed, your chair, then they send out a message to the world that they’re happy (ish) to be there and that they trust you. The FB check-in feature is a very powerful tool because people are nosey so they’ll probably have a quick snoop at your website to see exactly where their friend is.
A really good idea is to give any patients who check in with you a reward – $10 off their next hygienist visit, or a fancy new toothbrush. Don’t forget, every check-in will reach a few hundred people on average and these people know your patient, which means they trust their judgement, which means they might be next through your door.
Use informative and engaging content
Although a lot of Facebook marketing for dentists involves visual and person-to-person interaction (check-ins and likes), you do need to use your own content as well.
If you have a blog, then link it to your feed. Keep it short – people go to Facebook to unwind so they don’t want to be reading a 1,000-word post on gutta percha, for example. They want 300-word snippets on new techniques, teeth-cleaning tips and feel-good tales about how a set of implants transformed someone’s life.
When it comes to your actual Facebook posts, make them short and sweet too. Use polls on what you should call the new surgery goldfish, updates on new equipment, amusing anecdotes about staff members or the training courses they’ve just been on… Link to other practices (out of your area) that are doing something fun, like a dentist who sings rap songs to their patients; anything that will get a like or a share will do you just fine.
Above all, have fun, be consistent with your posting and make sure you respond – the resources to grow your practice are out there, so use them.

Son publicidades que aparecen como elemento de transmisión de noticias y lo mejor de ellos es que pueden ser direccionados a cuentas individuales de Facebook.
Como hemos visto en las noticias recientemente, Facebook tiene muchos datos y estos son invaluables para los pequeños negocios, como por ejemplo para un consultorio odontológico. Los darks posts te permiten crear publicidades en forma de actualizaciones, videos, ofertas especiales o simplemente fotos y luego usar palabras claves bien estudiadas y orientadas al público meta basadas en los datos demográficos que Facebook ha recolectado para alcanzar a las personas adecuadas.
Por supuesto que necesitarás crear una cantidad diferente de publicidades como: implantes para personas de la tercera edad, frenos para los adolescentes, chequeos gratuitos para niños, etcétera. Utiliza cada una de estas publicidades por un par de días a la vez y verás como tu tráfico de gente, y con suerte tus consultas se incrementarán. Te darás cuenta que anuncio publicitario funciona mejor y luego puedes volver a reformular sus estrategias de marketing partiendo desde allí.
Utiliza una URL personalizada
Si tienes una página comercial de Facebook, esta te dará la opción de utilizar una URL personalizada que es una URL más corta, usada con fines de marketing. Por ejemplo, la URL personalizada de tu consultorio dental puede ser www.facebook.com/docyankem/. Ellos prefieren fragmentos breves de unas 300 palabras sobre nuevos procedimientos, consejos para el blanqueamiento de dientes, casos de éxito en donde los implantes dentales han transformado la vida de los pacientes.
Cuando tengas que hacer tus posteos de Facebook, hazlos cortos y agradables. Utiliza encuestas sobre cómo deberías llamar al nuevo pez del área de cirugía, notifica sobre mejoras en los equipos, cuenta anécdotas sorprendentes sobre los empleados o sobre los cursos de perfeccionamiento a los que hayan concurrido últimamente.... Has enlaces a otras prácticas dentales (que no estén dentro de tu área) los cuales realicen cosas divertidas como un dentista que canta canciones de rap a sus pacientes; o simplemente utiliza cualquier cosa que pueda obtener un me gusta o que sea digno de compartir.
Sobre todo, diviértete, sé consistente con tus posteos y asegúrate de reaccionar a los comentarios, los recursos para crecer en tu práctica profesional están a tu alcance, así que úsalos.

I was born in Argentina and even though my parents only speak Spanish, I started learning English from an early age since two of my favourite aunts are English teachers who shared their passion for this language with me. I remember being only seven years old and trying to translate some of Queen's songs, and I think that the reason why I decided to become an English teacher and translator was due to having a positive experience full of happiness and amazement with the language.
It took me a long time to decide to only work in the field of language (both as a teacher and a translator) mainly as a result of my family legacy, a successful business enterprise selling household appliances, so I have studied and gained experience in other fields of study such as marketing and business administration as well. Today, I can say that my background in business has helped me to apply that knowledge to the work that I do as a translator and teacher.
As regards my current working situation, I have more than ten years of experience as an onsite English teacher and I started working as an online English and Spanish teacher in 2018, and I also have more than five years of experience as a translator. I've obtained a degree in technical, literary, and scientific translation, and I have enrolled in the Translators' Association of my province so I am entitled to do sworn translations.
As I have been self-employed most of my life, I am hard-working, responsible, reliable, and committed to doing all my jobs with proficiency, efficiency, and accuracy.
