Discussion

Dziadzio (asker) Jan 23, 2006:
I think the text has been translated from English to Danish at some point, and maybe it should have been translated to 'associationsskabende' instead of 'association skaber'. The sentence. 'Billedmssig associationsskabende karakter' makes more sense.

Hi,
This is my immediate guess - the term is pretty vague. But since 'billedmæssig' qualifies 'association', it is probably a pretty good guess. Another bet would be 'figurative' (as opposed to 'literal').

Without more context it is difficult to say for certain... do you have any more context?

Good luck,
Christian

But to be honest, I have a difficult time figuring out what the sentence is supposed to mean. I have never heard of an association creating characterics...

Graphic

is another option. In your context 'metaphorical' is very possibly better, but this is just for the record!

This is part of the Concise Oxford entry:

2 giving vividly explicit detail.
3 (Computing) relating to or denoting a visual image.

– ORIGIN C17: via L. from Gk graphikos, from graphU ‘writing, drawing’.
