Dear Colleagues,

I am now faced with a difficulty into which I fortunately had never run before. It looks like an agency is not paying, although it has a proper website. Is it just a delay or does it sometimes happen that an agency actually rips off the translator although the latter has gone through the process of signing a non-confidentiality agreement and was contacted only two weeks after signing it?

Dear Colleagues,

I am now faced with a difficulty into which I fortunately had never run before. It looks like an agency is not paying, although it has a proper website. Is it just a delay or does it sometimes happen that an agency actually rips off the translator although the latter has gone through the process of signing a non-confidentiality agreement and was contacted only two weeks after signing it?

What should I do if this agency hasn't paid yet? If I really don't get paid, what can I do to get my money and if not, at least to prevent this agency from doing that again to other translators. Is there some sort of black list???

Thanks for your help,
Patrick

the "blue board" is the place to check beforehand and report this May 6, 2005

How long are they in arrears with payment?
What did you agree to with them?
Have you looked at the proz.com blue board?
Have you called them?

Welcome Patrick May 6, 2005

Have a look at this previous post
http://www.proz.com/topic/31986 and read particularly the notes about Payment terms.

If the Payment terms are not respected you must try to contact them by any means. If then you're sure that they don't want to pay, you'll be able to report your experience in Proz.com's Blue Board (see upper menu, Jobs -> Blue Board) in which you enter your willingness

Thanks! May 6, 2005

Thank you Claudia,

I have already had a look at some of the answers. Apparently, unless it has been agreed upon otherwise in the first place, we should all ask for a one month period to get paid and stick to it.

Good luck for the rest,
Patrick

Blue Board and Payment Practise lists May 6, 2005

Hi Patrick,

I hope you'll get paid. If not, please do make an entry on ProZ.com Blue Board. You don't need to be Platinum to make and entry. Should the outsourcer not be listed yet, please add a record entering as many data as possible.

Before accepting a job it is advisable to check both the Blue Board and the various payment practise lists. There are many, some also language specific.

Good luck,

Giuliana

Check the agreed payment terms May 6, 2005

Hallo, Patrick, I may admit writing in German.

Hoping it is just a delay May 7, 2005

Dear colleague,

It may be that it is not thier intention not to pay. On the

A few days ago a colleague asked the similar question.

concerning your payment terms. If they are late according

Well, my suggestion is to ask the agency why they still
don't pay for your services. Of course, you must be sure
concerning your payment terms. If they are late according
to your contract or agreed terms, then you can send them the
reminder. That is the common practise. However, if they do
not pay after you send it, then the best choice is to send
reminder but via mail, not e-mail. In that case, someone
has to receive it personally and it is a kind of proof for
you that they owe you something.
Further, there are many lists over the Internet where you
can put your comments on bad payers (please refer to Blue
Board here as suggested by many colleagues). Also, you can
find there an information about bad payers or other
translators' comments on frauds, cheaters etc. It is not
unusual that they have a web site, but it means nothing. It
is not a proof of their honesty, professionalism and so
forth. If you have the name of the agency you could e-mail
me, and I could check if I have it in my great list of
cheaters (bad payers).
Regards and good luck!
Hoping it is just a delay.
Rina
