Easiest way to reverse a TMX.

Anyone know of a quick way to reverse a TMX?

(en-GB)-(nl-NL) -> (nl-NL)-(en-GB)

Can this be done in either Olifant, or Xbench (or memoQ:)?

Do you mean to import the TMX to MemoQ? Sep 14, 2010

If you mean to import the TMX into MemoQ, you don't need to make any edits in the file. Simply import the TMX into the memory and, in the "Translation memory TMX import settings" dialog box, switch the locales in the "Source" and "Target" drop-down lists of the "Languages" group.

No need to do that, TM direction depends not on the TMX but on what TM you import it into.
If you mean that someone labeled the languages wrong, here's how to reverse that:
Open the TMX and
replace <tuv xml:lang="NL-NL"> with <tuv xml:lang="placeholder">

replace <tuv xml:lang="EN-GB"> with <tuv xml:lang="NL-NL">

replace <tuv xml:lang="placeholder"> with <tuv xml:lang="EN-GB">

Actually changing it in an editor? Sep 14, 2010

I wonder whether you would like to open the TMX in Word (or another editor, for that matter) and actually do a global Find/Replace for the codes and chance them? That is how I would go about it.

Of course you would to change one of the locales to some own impossible word like BEIJERBEIJER, then one locale to the other, then BEIJERBEIJER to the pending locale.

Sounds like a stupid method, but I reckon you don't to this often?

That solved my problem. ("No need to do that, TM direction depends not on the TMX but on what TM you import it into.")

Hi there

I do the following:

Create a new TM with the new reverse source and target languages

then

• Click on Tools and click on Resource Console
• Under the Translation Memories panel, select the TM you wish to reverse
• Highlight the TM and click on Export to TM
• You will be given the option of where to save the file
• Save the file
• Highlight the new TM that you have created (the reverse TM)

I do the following:

Create a new TM with the new reverse source and target languages

then

• Click on Tools and click on Resource Console
• Under the Translation Memories panel, select the TM you wish to reverse
• Highlight the TM and click on Export to TM
• You will be given the option of where to save the file
• Save the file
• Highlight the new TM that you have created (the reverse TM)
• Click on Edit and a window will open to allow you to filter the contents
• Click on OK and the TM will open within memoQ
• Below the tabs, click on Import
• Navigate to the TM file and click on OK
• Importing the file will start to take place and the TMX import settings window will appear
• Ensure that under the Languages section, nl-NL should be selected for Source and en-gb selected for Target
• Click on OK
• The software will now import the file into the TM in the reverse way

Hi Michael,

a late reply, but: you can do it for sure in both Olifant (faster) and Xbench.

With Xbench you export to a TAB delimited text which you have to reverse the columns within EXCEL.
With Olifant it's much easier instead, but I don't remember the procedure on the fly.
