I have been using MemoQ for a ongoing project I've been working on, but I would like to export it and begin working on the same project with a different CAT tool.
Where does MemoQ save the translation memory on my hard drive? What file format should I be looking for?
I should add that I was using the demo version of MemoQ, and it has recently expired and turned into the '4free' mode, so I cannot enter the project. I'm not sure if this effects my ability to export the T... I think you should be able to see the Resource Console even with a free version. Look for the Resource Console in the toolbar, select Translation Memories on the left handside, select your memory, and choose Export to TMX. TMX is a format you will easily import from your other tool.

Great, that worked perfectly- TM successfully exported and imported. I was also able to export the term base as a CMV, do you know what type of encoding MemoQ uses for its term bases?

You probably mean CSV, which is in fact a misnomer, since the separator is a tab rather than a comma. Anyway, use UTF-8 and you should be fine, for instance when using Excel for exporting and importing your terminology.

Porting a termbase to another tool is a bit trickier. While translation memories have the rather standard TMX format, each CAT tool provider uses their way of storing and porting information.
The way to approach this would vary depending on the target tool, but at least in memoQ you can export a CSV file which contains all the fields memoQ holds in their termbases. In the other tool, in theory you should be able to choose which fields from memoQ's exported termbase you want to import as fields of your target termbase.
The statement above is valid for termbases that are not actual termbases, i.e. "flat termbases" made up of a table of fields like in memoQ. Structured termbases like in Multiterm might require a different approach.
What tool will you be using? You might want to post a question about importing a CSV-exported glossary in the appropriate technical forum in Proz.com.
