Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 Apr 1, 2010

I love piano music and one of my all-time favourites is Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto - deeply moving music that makes you appreciate the beauty of love and life so much that it will make you want to live forever. The playing that plucks every string of my heart is by the pianist Krystian Zimerman, a true romantic to the fingertips.

Hi Yolanda,

I suggest the complete work of Bach, then, if you like ancient music and choral music I kindly recommend you to listen the Hilliard Ensemble, they are fabulous! Last, Richard Strauss' Lieders.

Have a nice listening

St Matthew Passion Apr 1, 2010

Don't forget Bach's St Matthew Passion.
Half of the Dutch population will be listening to it tomorrow.

Polyphonically,
Gerard

Baroque music... Apr 1, 2010

... every day is my choice. Internet provides radio channels with non-stop classical music, without commercials. Easter is a wonderful time to hear music by the masters, eg, Telemann, Bach, that well-known Englishman Händel, and many others.

The American author Mark Twain gives some good advice: "Wagner's music is better than it sounds."

A modern composer really worth listening to is Arvo Pert. It's almost addictive.

Mozart and Gershwin Apr 1, 2010

Mozart's Symphony No. 21 and Symphony No. 40.

Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (but not when working because you will feel like dancing to an improvised coreography).

Also Stravinsky´s "The Rite of Spring" (it's an acquired taste, though).

There is a collection of 30 CDs called "Les Triomphes de la Musique Classique", from Bach to Vivaldi, which is a real treasure. Each CD has some of each composer's most important compositions, and some of them (like Mozart,

There is a collection of 30 CDs called "Les Triomphes de la Musique Classique", from Bach to Vivaldi, which is a real treasure. Each CD has some of each composer's most important compositions, and some of them (like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach) have several CDs. This collection was published by Countown Music and JBM, in 1999. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I forgot to recommend Vivaldi's "Four Seasons".

Thanks for the question! Apr 1, 2010

There have been so many wonderful inspirations so far...

I recently discovered the Elizabethan Serenade by Ronald Binge and find it very enjoyable. Here you can listen to it whilst looking at some pictures of Dublin:

Bach Apr 1, 2010

Gerard's excellent advice:
Don't forget Bach's St Matthew Passion.

I listened to Bach's 'Johannespassionen' last Saturday in the Royal Admiralty Church in Karlskrona, Sweden (full house) and intend to listen to another 'group' performing the same masterpiece on Good Friday.

Don't forget Bach!

Mozart, lots of Mozart, and particularly Papageno's Aria in the Magic Flute

Catalani's aria "Ebben? Ne andrò lontana" in the opera La Wally (remember the movie "Diva"?!)

Tchaikovksy's Nutcracker Suite, I never get tired of that

Felices Pascuas a todos.
