I am due to sit my NAATI certified translator test in a few days and I'm trying to work out what kind of dictionary I should bring along. I'll be translating from English into Italian. I normally use online dictionaries.
Test instructions state the following:

You may bring and use resources during the test. Permittable resources are dictionaries, glossaries and thesauri. These resources can be:

must download electronic resources onto your device prior to the test. You can only access electronic resources on the laptop or tablet on which you complete your translation test, and you must access them from the desktop or home screen.
I tried looking for a downloadable EN-IT dictionary for my Mac but I can't find one anywhere... and I am panicking
I don't have a hard copy dictionary.
Does anyone know of a good downloadable EN-IT dictionary available online? I don't mind paying for one.

CD-ROM?
Feb 24, 2019
I don't know about IT, but in FR EN, I use the Robert & Collins dictionary on CD-ROM — which can if you prefer be wholly installed on your device.
I'd be surprised if there wasn't an equivalent in IT. Indeed, it might well be available to download.
I suspect that mainstream 'online' dictionaries may well not be downloadable, either for copyright reasons, or simply because of the data formats they use.

App Store?

Hello Erika--Did you check Mac App Store?
At office I successfully used Lingvo for Mac with some 100+ official and custom dictionaries. Even considering there're always room for nitpicking, it was pretty ok for several big and specialized projects. However, I can't comment on Italian.
In the case of "emergency", why not Plan B--a light-weigh Microsoft ultrabooks or even a tablet?
Good luck)

Thank you so much everyone.
In the end, I borrowed a couple of dictionaries from my local library and I also found that my Mac has an in-built dictionary of which I was not aware.
