In Taiwan, we have a registered revenue of the same industry more than US$1.8 billion per year. Such a huge country like China with US$2.5 billion only? Interesting!
3,000 registered translation companies against 60,000 employments means that averagely one company employs 20 translators. So far I know, most of them do not employ more than 5 persons. Without a detailed account of the distribution, the report doesn't give a clear picture of the industry in China at all.
In China, all translation companies advertise almost the same Quality Assurance process at their websites. I am wondering why "lack of quality supervision have left loopholes for unqualified translators and misleading sloppy works"?
Well, what does it mean by "loopholes for unqualified translators"? We buy translations according the purposes they are to achieve. Almost every each translator is good for something. The problem lies in project management. If translation companies engage unqualified PMs and do not execute the QA process they advertise, we are not to expect quality at all. I would say, it is not any translator unqualified but translation companies with their unqualified PMs --- that is the core of the quality problem, in my not so humble opinion.
