Kiedy zbierasz wywiad genetyczny rysujesz tzw. rodowód (pedigree), czyli specjalny schemat rodziny, następnie na podstawie analizy wysnuwa się różne wnioski, także odnośnie do nowotworów. Więc nawet sam zwrot "pedigree diagnosis" jest trochę kalką, podobnie jak i rozpoznanie rodowodowe pozostawia wiele do życzenia
