In other countries the name panga may refer to a different species. In Indonesia and Spain, panga refers to Megalaspis cordyla, in Poland it refers to Pangasius hypophthalmus, and in Kenya it refers to Trichiurus lepturus.

Panga - ryba konsumpcyjna o smacznym mięsie.

W jęz. angielskim panga opisywana jest jako Pterogymnus laniarius. W Polsce częściej spotykany pod tą nazwą jest morski gatunek Megalaspis cordyla z rodziny ostrobokowatych. W wykazie gatunków zawartym w Rozporządzeniu Komisji (WE) NR 1638/2001 z dnia 24 lipca 2001 r. oznaczona jako Panga - HAS - Megalaspis cordyla. Natomiast w handlu często spotyka się sprowadzanego z wietnamskich hodowli suma rekiniego (Pangasius hypophthalmus) sprzedawanego jako panga.
