French term
abondement des gains
French to English
Law/Patents
Gaming/Video-games/E-sports
Hello, I was wondering whether this might mean "to pool winnings", but I'm not sure. It might also mean to receive winnings from gambling in a lump sum. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Here is how it appears in my text:
"Les règles régissant la prise de paris en la forme mutuelle ne font pas obstacle au recours, par les opérateurs de paris agréés, à des mécanismes **D'ABONDEMENT DES GAINS**, sous réserve que cette pratique demeure ponctuelle et n'ait pas pour effet de dénaturer le caractère mutuel des paris"

matching winnings
could it be matching? I'm just guessing here... sort of based on my understanding of the word abondement as used for example in Plan Epargne Entreprise, where the employeur matches the employees savings
sorry, I don't have time to research and back this up

Hi Aoife, I did some further research and really can't find anything to convince myself... my thoughts are that this has something to do with bonuses on winnings, but I'm not sure how that fits in with the mutuel concept, hope someone else will come along with some ideas for you!

Note from asker:
hi Lori, I'll leave this one open for a while longer, to see if someone else has any ideas. Thanks, Aoife |
Discussion
This suggests to me that the players are the beneficiaries of the "abondement", not the operators.
If this is the case, then what it might be saying is that the casinos can give themselves 'bonuses' rather than pooling all the profits. Unfortunately I know nothing about the way French casinos (or any other) are run.
