Brazilian Portuguese speakers welcome to answer this question
In a French report on Brazil: "De Ceara à Rio Grande do Sul, en passant par Goias, Piaui, Goîas ou encore Sao Paolo..." - is this a typo or am I dealing with two different places?

Goiás in today a state within Brazil.
Goiás used to be the capital town of the state by the same name.
The capital city, Goiânia, was inaugurated on October 24th 1933; the former capital was the city of Goiás (not shown in the map), which is located about 150 km west of Goiânia (this map shows the relative position between Goiás, Goiânia and Brasília). Being a planned city, Goiânia offers all the commodities of modern society, without the problems brought by overgrowth.
If they don't speak separately of the town and the state than one Goiás should not be there. The itinerary seems to include only states from North to South.
