My heartfelt commiserations. I agree with Lilian but I think I see the source of the problem, bearing in mind that what you translate seems to be a set of entries for a computerised system. The authors of these entries invariably seem to think that other languages are just like English just that the words are different and that they may be mechanically assigned one to another with full concordance. They cannot, the difficulties are fundamental and of logical nature (see Godel) and a good job needs a major re-editing of these entries, which goes far beyond the job of a translator. I did such a translation for a computerised system of chemical hazards management. To say, it was a nightmare would be a major understatement. I usually try to make the clients understand, the entries must be written from the scratch as full sentences or their grammatical equivalents. They do not take kindly to such a suggestion. |
