Oleg, Hi! Thanks for your comments. I'm aware that vulcanite, Goodyear's serendipitous discovery, is an obsolete term for hard rubber/ebonite. However, the mineral vulcanite CuTe is rare worldwide with a small find in Russia. Hence, I don't thinks it's vulcanite in the given situation. The 2 vol. Russian Geol. Dictionary (Izd. Nedra, Moscow, 1973) gives, besides CuTe, "a gceneral term for volcanogenic rocks regardless of origin, outflowing or eruption." Volcanogenic seems to be preferred to volcanic in Rus. geol. texts. These are also called simply "volcanics." I know the etymology of the geological terms, but thanks for the refresher course. The word used most often, IMHO, for igneous is изверженный, but that depends on the authors. Best regards. |
