Forgotten context Hello David. I am aware of the fact that there is no "no context" thing. Actually, I do not remember the context. I remember that I had heard/read it somewhere and that I was unsure about the meaning at the moment. I memorized the expression, but (probably in a rush) forgot all other facts. Last days, it crosses my mind every now and then, and in a way it bothers me :) I hoped to memorize the meaning and get rid of it. When I remember the context, I will post it.

Dejan, there really is no such thing as "no context", even if you only tell us he's in a particular sector, that's context. If it's the financial sector, he might be watching "futures", for example. Please try and help us - help you...

someone who spots new trends

More context would definitely help (hence medium confidence level), but I imagine this is what you're thinking of.

"Blue Is New Green, Says Future Watcher Marian Selzman
Executive vice-president at US advertising giant J Walter Thompson (JWT), Salzman is one of the world's leading 'futurists' or trend-spotters."

On her own website she (Marian Selzman) just calls herself a 'trendspotter'.
