French term

VDN

French to English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng safety
I think this refers to a safety procedure or emergency drill for people working with chemicals, can anyone confirm this and say if there is an English-language equivalent please?

...Challenge Securite Maintenance Raffinerie: ... la preparation et l'execution d'une VDN sur un back de soufre....avec d'excellents resultats securite.

Many thanks

Tend to agree more with MoiraB and Marco Solinas. The VDN scrubber seems to be used more for dust pollutants.
Marco Solinas Aug 25, 2013:
To: Moira Draining would indeed be appropriate for liquids and supfur is sometimes stored in liquid form.
MoiraB Aug 25, 2013:
for info http://www.ortec.fr/agences/ortec-environnement-notre-dame-d... confirms = vidange, dégazage et nettoyage, but EN version of that site has draining, degassing and cleaning - don't know how reliable that is though.
claude-andrew Aug 25, 2013:
The "D" could be décontamination
Louisa King (asker) Aug 25, 2013:
sorry, typo Sorry, it's actually un bac de soufre - I think it's a container of sulphur
Bashiqa Aug 25, 2013:
@ Liz Someone who is suffering from a bad back?
liz askew Aug 25, 2013:
What is "un back de soufre"?

Proposed translations

33 mins

emptying, gas purging, and cleaning

for: "vidange, dégazage et nettoyage"

I take it that "back" is a typo for "bac"
