the letter of the contract/agreement between us / the contents of [...]
Are you obliged to comply with the letter of the agreement even though it is not what you intended?
It runs against the spirit, and probably the letter of the agreement; raises all kinds of questions about the duties they may undertake when not covering

: I would not use it -- especially for the US. The first option -- the other options sound better.

Thanks. Yes, it is subject to certain regional or country-specific preferences. The term "the letter of the contract/agreement" does however exist in bizspeak

: Uzyskalibyśmy synergię typu "wiążą nas nie tylko pisemne umowy umowy, ale i [dodatkowo] etyka biznesowa - tymczasem tu chodzi o przeciwstawienie (umowy pisemne a etyka biznesowa).

: "The letter" tak - ale dlaczego "of the law"? W oryginale nie ma mowy o prawie - chodzi o w nim umowy.

In your case: written (legally binding) rules vs. unwritten (ethical) rules.

Neither would I. I'd go with the "WRITTEN" (rules) vs. "UNWRITTEN" (rules). "Законы" vs. "понятия" in the Russian culture. ;) And you're welcome to use my (or our JOINT) idea about the "letter" part. The truth is in between somewhere...
