Da Italiano a Inglese Altro Agricoltura marketing authorisation for herbicides
Hi, this document is headed "Registro dei prodotti sanitari (Ministero dell'agricultura, alimentazione...etc.)
I thought it was going to be an approval for the application for a marketing authorisation but I'm not sure whether "stimare" in this context means that they have APPROVED the request or that they are simply agreeing to EVALUATE the request (a sort of acknowledgement of having received the request). The rest of the document consists of the label and information on the herbicide. I am asking because, although I know that stimare means assess or evaluate, I've usually translated similar documents (admittedly in French) that give an positive or negative opinion (approval or rejection) of a similar request, and never one simply agreeing to evaluate the product. Can anyone help? Many thanks

"Vista l'approvazione delle Commissione di valutazione dei prodotti fitosantiari,
DECIDO di ***stimare*** la richiesta di autorizzazione alla commercializzazione del prodotto fitosantario XXX, in base alle conduzioni generali d'uso stabilite nella presente decisione e/or specifiche contenute nella relazione della Commissione di valutazione dei prodotti fitosanitari, fino alla data di scadenza indicata, salvo revisione o revoca della stessa."

This is signed by the Direttore Generale della Sanità della produzione agraria.

I think this has to be the meaning, simply because of the rest of the sentence and particularly the reference to "fino alla data di scadenza". I can't find this exact meaning of "stimare" in a dictionary, but one meaning is "to have a positive opinion of".

firmare - sign

could it be that it is a typo for "firmare"? - there seem to be a number in the text you have entered
I may be wrong but stimare makes no sense at all here as far as I can see
Note from asker:
Thanks, you could be right - I've single-handedly approved the product...

neutral James (Jim) Davis : Agree with makes no sense, could be firmare, could be many things thoug.

Thanks Jim, yes, that's why I gave it a 1. I wonder what else might make sense in the context and perhaps have been misread or mistranscribed (or in honour of the inimitable Dubya, we should never misunderestimate other people's mistakes)

to appraise

neutral philgoddard : This doesn't fit with the rest of the sentence. They're going to appraise it until the expiry date?
