has been shown in Figure 12. After connecting all cables with the different components of the
CPT apparatus (such as Picoscope, Datalogger, Steel plate etc) the whole system will be
ready to work. When the steel plate is hammered vigorously, one wave denoted D as shown
in the laptop screen (Figure 13) will directly come from the sensor connected to the steel
plate. Another three waves (A, B, C) are recorded by the three sensors connected at the tip of
the CPT device due to the impact of the hammering of steel plate are also seen in the laptop
screen. The time “T” required for arrival of the wave from the steel plate to the cone tip is
found from the “picosoftware” graph. The distance ‘’d’’ between the steel plate and the
center of the CPT is measured, this is a fixed value for a particular site. Knowing the depth of
penetration “d1” of the CPT device, the shear-wave velocity (Vswv) of soil at a particular
depth can be estimated from the following equation:
