English term

magnolia room

English to French Art/Literary Military / Defense
Bonjour à tous,

Ce terme me laisse perplexe. Rien trouvé malgré mes recherches. J'avais pensé à "dortoir féminin", "chambrée", "box", mais sans certitude. L'auteur est une femme.

"I was a serving soldier in the British Army and spent a fair bit of time living in tents in deserts and cold muddy fields, but back on barracks, much of my 12 years service was spent in magnolia rooms. Sometimes I would have a room to myself but quite often I would share a magnolia room with another female soldier".

Merci d'avance

I can't open http://digimag.milspouse.com/publication/index.php?p=56&i=16... but it suggests "painfully drab" accommodation in the British Army.

What it says is "The Magnolia Factor: Getting to know my wonderful, colourful, very different new ... quarter in the U.K. has its interior decorated with this shamefully drab colour. ... In the British Army and its regimental system, a greater proportion of military ..."

And a random site "definitely a sense of design with strict avoidance of magnolia, creams, beiges and institutional colours in general."

"The Vale Berkley Guesthouse, run by Harri and Claire Cheber, where functional magnolia rooms are the order of the day."

Anyway, the point is that IMHO it can only be translated literally "une chambre/pièce magnolia" - it's presumably a bedroom.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : from what I could find "magnolia" is not a particularly drab colour - more a plain all purpose colour // strangely enough a lot of banqueting rooms are advertised as "magnolia room"
