The context is a marketing piece on the benefits on a certain method of online payment

Hi all,

I understand that a "compte technique" is a type of bank account in France which doesn't have an associated bank card. Given that this is essentially a marketing text, how might you translate this without adding a long-winded explanation. If my understanding is not correct, please do correct me.

Thank you.
David

Thanks Patrickfor Thanks for the clarification, that would make sense (I took my original understanding from the first post on Wordreference). I've asked the client for more clarification and will post it here when I get it.

@asker "I understand that a "compte technique" is a type of bank account in France which doesn't have an associated bank card"
Nope, that cannot be a good definition as a bank account is never, as far as I know" automatically linked to a bank card.
You open an account and then, if you wish to, you ask for a card.
I agree with writeaway on this.
To me a technical account is an account used for "technical" purposes not by individuals...

Compte.

Support d’identification, vu du système informatique. Chaque compte a un identifiant IT.
On distingue :
„ Un compte nominatif, associé à une et une seule personne.
„ Un compte collectif, associé à un groupe de personnes.
„ Un compte de service (ou compte technique), associé à une application ou une ressource du SI. Par exemple, un compte permettant à un serveur Web d’accéder à une base de données.

Above, in the context your cite, DirectSubmit, you will find a number of hits with "compte de service". In my first source, you will see that "compte de service" is also known as a "compte technique". If you pursue searches with "compte de service", you will find a number of appropriate compatible context sources with "service account".

I think it is worth pursuing this idea further yourself, with the benefit of the further, more comprehensive context you posess.

chequebook only account

After having a look at a few online definitions, this is the only way I can think of to render this in English. "Technical account" would be meaningless in the context of banking...

technical account

a technical account is not a "real" bank account, it seems to be a sort of virtual account used essentialy to group together some transactions of the same nature, and that is also what it is in french.

Linguee (only good at finding an occurence of an expression) gave me this link to a document from the European Central Bank that points to both the french and english version of the same document.
What I found in there makes me think my proposal has some sense...

fwiw. needs corroboration

It is probably an account dedicated for the transactions between the bank and the provider of the online payment service. Usually "compte technique" refers to a bank account not related to individual clients.

I said it needs corroboration. At least it does make some sense in the context.
