Spanish term

AVN

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Spain
From Spanish hospitalization report:

Plan de Actuacion:
-Reviso tratamiento.
-Pendiente de evolucion. Paciente NO RCP. Familia informada.
-Solicito cadenas ligeras en orina y AVN jueves.

Presumably some kind of test/analysis based on the context.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Discussion

DLyons Oct 27, 2015:
With hypertension might it be a test for arteriovenous nicking?
Heather Oland (asker) Oct 27, 2015:
Thanks everybody for your input so far. The patient was hospitalized for worsening heart failure and has been diagnosed with AHT, DLP, and CKF.
Joseph Tein Oct 26, 2015:
Agree with Lorena ... I was going to write this also. This is a rather obscure acronym (it's not in Cosnautas) and it would help to have as much information as possible (always when posting questions) to help figure it out.

Y espero que mires mis preguntas también, Lorena :)

Hi Heather Could you tell us why this person was hospitalized? What treatment is he/she receiving?

AVN [Avascular osteonecrosis]

The presence of light chain proteins in urine is a sign of kidney issues. I found this, and it seems to be a good lead.

Avascular osteonecrosis (AVN) is a complication of renal transplantation. In this study, we present 12 cases of AVN associated with renal transplantation.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Joseph Tein : Good as an English acronym, but the source text is in Spanish. And it seems to be a test: the doctor is "requesting" an AVN ... it doesn't make sense to say "I'm requesting avascular necrosis".

Solid points all around. I found also that a variety of tests are used in diagnosing AVN, including X-rays and bone scans. So, no, it doesn't fit.
