I think your version is fine. Not sure why Neil doesn't like "behave".

agree neilmac : Because I'm more used to seeing it in texts about behaviourism, animal behaviour etc. (And am a mathophobe). This was actually my first choice.

Thanks Neil. Yes, in that context "behave" is a bit different. Me, I like my functions to be well-behaved.
