The literal translation "to otherwise refer" doesn't really mean anything to me. Any suggestions? Deadline hanging over my head!

: And if the "à" had been repeated in the French, although not a grammatical obligation, the writer of the original would have assisted the reader and reduced the potential for ambiguity. In short, the "fond" is there, but the "forme" is not.

Excuse my ingestion in this question, but I am verily new to this game.
Example sentence:

: We simply would not say it like this in idiomatic EN, 'saisir' an authority has a very specific meaning & cannot be taken slavishly literally. 'use a different way' is also liable to be misleading in this context. That was an explanation, not suggestion!

If I'd been writing this in French, I'd probably have added an extra "à" as a kind of reminder although strictly speaking it is not necessary as any infinitive after the "à" is normally linked to it. !
