this is a text about vehicle testing:

El coche de seguridad dejará a los asistentes y participantes en el asentamiento y será el vehículo el que suba hasta allí, cuando se precise realizar alguna comprobación, para evitar que los asistentes y/o participantes bajen del asentamiento y puedan resbalar.

Para todas las pruebas se mantendrá un perímetro de seguridad con respecto al vehículo, que nunca será inferior a 5 metros.

Siempre que sea posible, la zona de seguridad en la pista de pruebas, donde permanecerán los participantes y asistentes, será el denominado asentamiento.

I don't know what they mean with 'asentamiento'... any ideas?

A difficult one!

Concerning the form this "asentamiento" takes, I don't know how much of a clue we have in "para evitar que los asistentes y/o participantes bajen del asentamiento y puedan resbalar".

If it's an area that has been levelled, cleared of rubble... then perhaps "prepared area". If simply marked, cordoned off... then "designated area".

Explanation:
Considering that the area must be completely settled, I suppose this idea is backed by the fact that if they get out of this area they may slip on the area that is not completely settled...
