Candidates seeking office must be permitted to run as party candidates, independent candidates nominated by initiative groups or as self-nominated candidates. However, the legal framework should be drafted carefully to eliminate the possibility of self-nominated candidates appearing on the ballot with party affiliation or endorsement without the certification of that party. This is necessary to prevent voters from being misled about party affiliation when marking their ballots. Additionally, candidates cannot be discriminated against, regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof.
