French term

liséré d'ascites

French to English Medical Medical (general) Abdominal and Pelvic CT scan report
Hi,

The patient has a "discret liséré d'ascite dans la cavité pelvienne"

I can't seem to find many hits with line, rim, border, etc. Any suggestions on how to translate "Discret liséré d'ascite"?

Thanks

Joanna

That's fantastic Rachel! Can you post it as an answer so that I can select it :)
Rachel Fell Aug 15, 2018:
I get 6790 results from https://tinyurl.com/ycwlvg8j of rim of ascites
joanna menda (asker) Aug 15, 2018:
I don't think so Rachel. Main symptoms: right pleural effusion, significant aortic atherosclerosis, secondary atelectasis and a probable underlying superinfection
Rachel Fell Aug 14, 2018:
What is the patient's condition apart from this? Would "incipient ascites" fit?

Hydrops was classified as mild or severe using criteria described by van Kamp et al.13. Briefly, mild hydrops was defined as the presence of a distinct rim of ascites, with or without pericardial effusion, while severe hydrops was defined as the presence of an abundant fluid collection, usually ascites, with skin edema.

I didn't get as many as 6790 when I looked again, but still quite a few reasonably reliable looking hits!

trace ascites

I haven't been able to find out whether "trace" in trace ascites stands for "minimal", or for "tracing [the organ contour]". Yet, the distinction may not be that important as your patient has both features, discret and liséré, and small amounts of ascites always first show up as a rim surrounding affected organs.

Trace ascites, while sometimes subtle, can be confidently diagnosed when anechoic fluid is present along the margin of the liver capsule.
